Glossy Cookie Icing {Easy For Decorating}

This glossy sugar cookie icing contains no raw egg whites or meringue powder—just simple ingredients. It is the perfect icing for your Christmas sugar cookies.

Beautiful Christmas cookies decorated with glossy and colorful icing add the final touch to any plate of cookies.

Squeeze Bottles Make Decorating Easy

I like to mix my colors and then put them in squeeze bottles. My kids have an easy time with this and it works well to make designs and lines. Here is a link to the bottles I've been using for years.

Ingredients

Butter- allows it to dry with a smooth finish.

Corn syrup—this isn't High-Fructose Corn Syrup—just a small amount of corn syrup allows the icing to dry with a glossy look.

Almond extract- This flavor is my favorite for sugar cookies, but feel free to use vanilla or lemon.

Milk- this recipe is tested with whole milk and half & half cream

Powdered sugar- the classic for icing

  • 2 cups powdered sugar (confectioner's sugar)
  • 6 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
  • 2 tablespoon melted butter
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract

Instructions

This icing dries nicely in just a few hours, allowing them to be stacked.

  1. Mix all ingredients with an electric mixer until smooth. Add more milk or powdered sugar to achieve the right consistency.
  2. If you are coloring the icing, divide it into bowls to color. Gel food coloring works great.
  3. Use squeeze bottles or a spatula to decorate cookies. The mixture will dry nicely in a few hours, allowing the cookies to be stacked.
  4. Add on any sprinkles or crushed candies before icing sets.  Enjoy!
