Queso is one of the best appetizers to have in your back pocket, and this Salsa Verde Queso has fantastic flavor. Have a group of high schoolers to feed? Queso. College students needing a study break? Queso. Football party or friends coming over to sit on the back porch? Queso.
I tend to like my Queso to be extra spicy, so I add LOTS of jalapenos. If you want it mild so that even a 3 year old will love it, just add pickled jalapenos or just stick with the diced green chilies that are not spicy in any way (just give great flavor). Play around with it and make this Salsa Verde Queso perfect for your tastes.
Are you needing recipes for a Cinco de Mayo feast? I have my popular Cinco de Mayo Round-Up post with more than 20 options. And don’t wait for Cinco de Mayo, have an extra special taco night and include Queso as the appetizer.
Salsa Verde Queso
This Salsa Verde Queso is amazing and made in the slow cooker for a fuss-free, easy to serve appetizer. Just keep chips on hand and you are ready to party!
8 oz cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup half and half
1/4 cup heavy cream
8oz White Cheddar Cheese, grated
8 oz pepperjack cheese, cubed
4 oz white American cheese (found at the deli counter)
1/2 cup salsa verde
4 oz diced green chilis
2 Tbsp chopped pickled jalapenos (fresh if you like extra hot)
Add all ingredients to your slow cooker and heat on high for 1 hour.
Uncover and stir until mostly smooth. Cover and heat on high for another 30 minutes.
When ready to serve top with more diced jalapenos or hot peppers.
I like to add extra jalapenos to my Queso for an extra spicy flavor. When I am making it for my kids, I skip the jalapenos and just add extra diced green chilies that are mild with ZERO spice factor and have amazing flavor. You can make this dip perfect for any tastebuds.
